I started playing drums after I first heard the Beatles. My brother in law gave me a pair of drums sticks and I began beating on everything with a flat surface. Boxes, tables, dashboards, desks much to the annoyance of my teachers, parents and siblings. The aforementioned brother in law played in a jazz band and turned me on to the joys of poly-rhythms. I listened to Stan Gets and Tito Puente and Dave Brubeck and Cannon Ball Adderly. I loved soul music like James Brown, Sam & Dave, The Temptations, Otis Reading, Sly Stone and Stevie Wonder and rock music like Steppenwolf, Jimi Hendrix and Cream, in my high school days. In college I got into Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears, Santana, Jethro Tull and War. When country music took over the radio air waves I re-acquainted myself to the sounds I heard as a child growing up and found I liked Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Willy & Waylon, Shania Twain and Johnnie Cash. The "thing" of Mountain Magic Band is strong vocals, playing in the pocket and always having a good time!
